How I teach adults.

A live lesson is one part of the process. What the learner says, remembers, and still finds difficult shapes the practice that follows and the lesson after that.

Each lesson builds on the last.

Your responses, questions, and difficulties help me choose what we work on next. My teaching system helps me keep track of that information and prepare practice; I make the teaching decisions.

  1. A goal

Choose a concrete task: for example, arrange a meeting and confirm the details.

  2. A live lesson

Explore the language, listen to examples, and use it in a conversation.

  3. Home practice

Recall the material and use it in a new situation. The time needed varies by assignment; it might be 30 or 45 minutes.

  4. A check

Look at what the learner can do without prompts and what needs more practice.

  5. The next lesson

Return to difficulties and gradually make the task more demanding.

One topic, in class and at home. Start with the home practice — you can do all of it on your own. The live class needs a partner.

Adapted lesson materials and fictional conversations. No account needed. The home practice follows the live class.
